On May 17, 2001, Gov. George H. Ryan announced the availability of "Census 2000 -- Profiles of General Demographic Characteristics: Illinois" that were recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau. These profiles are one page summaries of 2000 Census data for each governmental unit in the state. The profiles include 71 population items and 25 housing items.
Data in the 2000 Census profiles are tabulated from questions asked of all people and about every housing unit (the 100-percent data component of the census). Population items on the profile include sex, age, detailed race groups, Hispanic or Latino origin groups, and households by type and relationship. Housing items include occupancy status, vacancy status, and
whether the unit is owner occupied or renter occupied.
Governmental units for which the profiles are available include the state of Illinois, all counties, all townships, and all communities (incorporated places) in IL. Profiles are also available for Illinois' Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) and our 106th Congressional Districts. The profiles are available to view, print, or download in the Adobe Acrobat
Portable Document File (PDF) format.
